Lara Croft
An archaeologist and adventurer investigating Norse artifacts, ancient ruins, and the mystery surrounding her missing mother.
How it plays
The game presents Lara’s adventure through compact, exploration-focused areas with platforming and combat encounters. Players move through ruins and other environments, search for routes, solve environmental puzzles, collect useful items, and fight hostile creatures or enemies.
Progression comes from reaching new sections, activating mechanisms, overcoming traversal challenges, and defeating threats. The DS version uses a different structure and presentation from the home-console editions, so its stages and puzzles should be approached as a standalone handheld interpretation.
Plan your run
Inspect each area before committing to a route, since alternate paths and environmental details often indicate the solution to a traversal puzzle.
Conserve health and ammunition when possible. Use Lara’s movement abilities carefully around gaps and hazards, and revisit nearby spaces after activating a mechanism because the newly opened route may not be directly ahead.
Meet the cast
An archaeologist and adventurer investigating Norse artifacts, ancient ruins, and the mystery surrounding her missing mother.
Before you begin
Search side paths before leaving an area; useful items and clues may be easy to miss.
Treat the DS edition as its own game rather than expecting the level layout of the console versions.
Observe environmental mechanisms carefully before using limited resources in combat.
Tomb Raider: Underworld is an action-adventure platformer developed by Santa Cruz Games for Nintendo DS and published by Eidos Interactive. It adapts Lara Croft’s search for clues connected to Norse mythology, ancient ruins, and the disappearance of her mother. The DS edition is a substantially redesigned handheld game rather than a direct technical conversion of the console versions, combining exploration, environmental puzzles, platforming, and combat. Lara travels through hazardous archaeological locations, using weapons, movement abilities, and equipment to progress. Its compact structure and touch-screen-oriented presentation fit the hardware, although reception was mixed compared with the larger versions because of its simplified design and different perspective.
