How it plays
The player views Britannia from an overhead perspective and controls the Avatar with a party of companions. Exploration covers towns, wilderness, castles, shrines, dungeons, and a multi-level underworld. Conversation, searching, opening objects, using items, and solving clues are central to progress.
Combat switches to a separate turn-based view. Characters can move, attack, cast spells, use equipment, and exploit terrain. Progression comes from recruiting companions, improving equipment, learning spells, gathering information, and completing quests connected to the world’s virtues and political crisis.
Plan your run
Talk to residents repeatedly and record names, places, passwords, and clues. The main plot is information-heavy, and many objectives are revealed through conversations rather than explicit quest markers.
Keep food, torches, reagents, keys, and healing supplies available. Save before entering dungeons or beginning difficult conversations, and maintain a balanced party with strong melee, ranged, and spell capabilities.

Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny is a computer role-playing game developed and published by Origin Systems for DOS. It follows the Avatar’s return to Britannia, where Lord British has disappeared and Lord Blackthorn rules through an increasingly authoritarian interpretation of virtue. The game combines a large fantasy world, party-based exploration, turn-based combat, and extensive written dialogue. Players investigate political and supernatural threats while visiting towns, dungeons, shrines, and the underworld. Its moral conflict, detailed setting, and expanded simulation of Britannian society were widely regarded as major advances for the series, although its interface and demanding navigation could be challenging. Ultima V is historically regarded as one of the most influential and ambitious early computer RPGs.
