How it plays
The game uses a side-view perspective. Wario explores compact stages, collects coins and treasure, defeats or avoids enemies, activates switches, and reaches the goal. Normal damage causes a temporary state rather than removing a life, so hazards can sometimes be used deliberately to access new areas.
The main adventure contains multiple chapters and routes. Some stages offer alternate exits or lead to different chapters, allowing the player to revisit the story and discover additional endings. Wario’s movement, charging attack, jumping, and transformation states are central to progression.
Plan your run
Explore each room before rushing to the exit. Coins and treasure are often placed on optional routes, while switches and transformation effects can reveal passages that are not immediately obvious.
Use hazards tactically. Wario’s temporary states can break blocks, float, become heavy, or otherwise alter his movement, so an apparent mistake may be the intended solution. Record alternate exits and revisit chapters to find every route and ending.

Before you begin
Do not treat every enemy or hazard as something to avoid; some are required to trigger useful transformations.
Search above, below, and behind suspicious walls before leaving a stage.
Replay completed chapters to investigate alternate exits and treasure routes.
Wario Land 2 is a side-scrolling platform game developed by Nintendo R&D1 and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy. Wario returns to defend his castle and treasure after Captain Syrup and her pirates launch a surprise attack. Unlike many platform games, Wario cannot normally be killed by ordinary hazards; instead, enemies and objects trigger temporary transformations that change how he moves and solves problems. The game is structured around several chapters with branching stages, alternate routes, and multiple endings. Its inventive level design, unusual damage system, and replayable path selection were well received, and it is often regarded as one of the Game Boy’s strongest platform adventures.
