How it plays
Whomp 'Em is viewed from the side. Soaring Eagle runs, jumps, climbs ladders, attacks with his staff, and uses special abilities acquired from defeated guardians. Each area contains platforms, hazards, enemies, and a guardian battle at the end.
The world map presents several main areas that may be completed in different orders. Defeating a guardian provides a new power, allowing players to exploit weaknesses or handle later obstacles more effectively. After the main areas are cleared, the game continues through a final sequence of stages.
Plan your run
Learn enemy patterns before advancing, especially around pits and moving platforms. Short, deliberate jumps are safer than rushing through unfamiliar sections.
Choose stages according to the abilities you need, and use each guardian's weakness when possible. Conserve health by attacking from a safe distance and avoid unnecessary contact with regular enemies.

Whomp 'Em is a side-scrolling action platformer developed by Tamtex and published by Jaleco for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991. It follows Soaring Eagle, a young warrior who travels through dangerous regions and battles powerful guardians to restore peace. The game combines traditional platforming with a stage-selection structure inspired by boss-focused action games: several areas can be tackled in different orders, and defeating a guardian grants a new ability. Its Native American-inspired presentation, responsive staff combat, and challenging level design distinguish it from many NES platformers. Contemporary and later reception has generally recognized Whomp 'Em as an inventive, demanding title, although its difficulty and relatively short length can limit its appeal for players expecting a larger adventure.
