Worm teams
The playable combat units, organized into squads. Each worm can move, jump, and use a variety of weapons during its turn.
How it plays
Battles use a side-view perspective on destructible terrain. Teams take turns moving a worm, selecting a weapon, aiming, and firing before the turn timer expires. Terrain can be reshaped by explosions, creating cover or opening new routes.
The objective is to destroy every worm on the opposing team. Players progress through individual battle scenarios, using the available weapon inventory and environmental positions rather than character development or persistent statistics.
Plan your run
Use the terrain as cover and avoid leaving several worms exposed to the same explosive attack.

Before you begin
Explosions can be used to create tunnels as well as to attack.

The limited Game Boy screen makes positioning near visible cover especially important.
Worms is a turn-based artillery strategy game developed by Team17 and published for Game Boy by Ocean Software. Players command teams of animated worms across destructible landscapes, using projectile weapons, explosives, and tools to eliminate opposing teams. The Game Boy version adapts the series’ tactical formula to a monochrome handheld, with single-player battles and compact battlefields designed around limited hardware. Each turn requires careful positioning, weapon selection, and adjustment of firing angle and power. The original Worms was widely recognized for combining accessible controls with unpredictable terrain destruction and humorous presentation. Although this version is more limited than the home-computer releases, it preserves the central tactical challenge of making every shot and movement count.
