How it plays

How does Wrecking Crew play?

Each stage is viewed from a single-screen side perspective. The objective is to demolish every required wall and construction object without becoming trapped or losing to hazards and enemies.

Mario or Luigi can walk, climb ladders, and swing a hammer. Players must choose the order of demolition, use ladders carefully, and avoid enemies such as Gotchawrench. The game contains 100 numbered stages, with later layouts demanding more precise planning. A two-player mode alternates turns, and Design Mode allows custom stage construction on compatible versions.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Wrecking Crew?

Plan the entire route before swinging the hammer. Destroying a supporting wall or blocking a ladder too early can make an otherwise solvable stage impossible.

  • Clear enemies and open escape routes before committing to large sections.
  • Use ladders to control vertical movement and avoid unnecessary backtracking.
  • In two-player mode, coordinate the demolition order rather than treating turns as independent runs.
