How it plays
Matches are viewed from a 3D ringside perspective. The objective is to defeat an opponent by pinfall, submission, count-out, or another rule determined by the selected match type.
Players move around the ring, strike, grapple, throw opponents, climb turnbuckles, and perform signature or finishing moves when conditions are met. Match types include standard singles bouts, tag matches, handicap matches, and championship-oriented modes. Winning matches unlocks additional wrestlers and content, while the create-a-wrestler feature supports custom competitors.

WWF SmackDown! is a professional wrestling sports game developed by Yuke's and published by THQ for the original PlayStation. It presents the World Wrestling Federation roster in a fast, arcade-oriented format, with grappling, strikes, environmental attacks, and dramatic finishing moves at the center of play. Players can compete in singles and team matches, pursue championship goals, and build custom bouts using a broad selection of wrestlers and match rules. Its quick controls and energetic presentation helped distinguish it from slower wrestling simulations. The game was well received for its accessible action, roster, and depth, and it established the foundation for the long-running WWF SmackDown! series.
