How it plays
The game uses a side-view perspective. Each stage is a linear combat sequence in which the selected X-Man advances from one encounter to the next, defeats groups of enemies, and eventually faces a stronger opponent or boss.
Players move, jump, attack, and use each hero's distinct fighting style. Progression is stage-based rather than experience-driven; completing levels and defeating bosses advances the story, with no documented equipment or character-level system.
Plan your run
Learn the timing and reach of the chosen hero's basic attack before advancing. Keep moving around groups of enemies instead of allowing several opponents to surround you.
Use ranged attacks to control space when playing Cyclops or Storm, while Wolverine and Rogue are better suited to short engagements. Save health and special resources for boss encounters, and repeat difficult sections to learn enemy patterns.

Before you begin

Avoid standing between multiple enemies; reposition after each attack string.
Study boss patterns instead of trading damage continuously.
X-Men: Reign of Apocalypse is a side-scrolling action beat 'em up developed by Digital Eclipse and published by Activision for the Game Boy Advance. It places the X-Men in an alternate reality ruled by Apocalypse, where familiar allies and enemies have been transformed by his regime. Players choose from four heroes—Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, or Rogue—and fight through compact stages using standard attacks, jumps, and character-specific abilities. The game focuses on direct arcade-style combat rather than exploration or role-playing systems. Contemporary reception was mixed: reviewers generally recognized its solid presentation and recognizable X-Men cast, but criticized its short length, repetitive fighting, and limited depth compared with larger console beat 'em ups.
