Yoshi
The main character controlled by the player, who catches and arranges the falling egg halves.
How it plays
Falling enemies descend into four columns. The player manipulates the column positions and uses Yoshi egg halves to enclose groups of enemies; completing an egg clears the enclosed pieces and prevents the stacks from reaching the top.
The main one-player game continues through rounds with increasing pressure. A two-player mode allows two linked Game Boys to compete, with successful clears affecting the opponent's play area. The objective in both modes is to survive longer or defeat the opposing player by managing the falling pieces efficiently.
Plan your run
Keep the four columns at similar heights so that one dangerous stack does not become impossible to manage. Prioritize completing egg combinations before the upper sections fill, and avoid making unnecessary moves that leave isolated enemies trapped beneath mismatched pieces.
In two-player play, quick clears are valuable because they can send additional pressure to the opponent. Plan around the next available egg half instead of reacting only to the lowest piece.

In two-player mode, favor reliable clears over risky setups.
Yoshi is a puzzle game developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy. The player manages four vertical play areas while arranging falling enemies and egg pieces to create completed Yoshi eggs. Its play style combines quick decisions with careful stack management rather than direct character control. The game offers a standard round-based mode and a competitive two-player mode through the Game Link Cable. Released in 1991, it was noted for adapting a simple falling-object formula to the Mario and Yoshi theme, although its mechanics are less conventional than those of other Nintendo puzzle games.
