How it plays
The game uses a two-dimensional side view. Each stage requires the player to reach the goal while crossing platforms, pits, doors, ladders, and moving hazards.
Players can choose Imajin, Lina, Mama, or Papa. They pull vegetables and other objects from the ground, carry them, and throw them at enemies. Characters differ in running speed, jumping ability, and lifting power.
The adventure is divided into themed worlds with multiple stages, bonus areas, boss encounters, and a character-selection screen between stages. Progression depends on completing stages, collecting useful items, and defeating guardians.
Plan your run
Choose the character whose strengths match the stage. Lina is useful for wide gaps, Mama for vertical sections, and Papa for quickly moving heavy objects; Imajin is the safest general-purpose choice.
Search suspicious ground for vegetables, herbs, and hidden items before advancing. Carry objects rather than throwing them immediately, since they can be used to clear several enemies or interrupt a boss.
Avoid rushing through doors and ladders. Learn enemy movement, preserve health, and use hearts and power-ups before difficult sections rather than waiting until the last possible moment.

Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic is a side-scrolling action platformer developed by Nintendo R&D4 and published by Fuji Television for the Family Computer Disk System. The game follows a family drawn into a strange dream world after a magical book is stolen and two children are kidnapped. Players choose among four characters with different jumping, running, and lifting abilities, then explore obstacle-filled stages and defeat enemies with thrown objects. Its imaginative art and distinctive mechanics earned it a strong reputation in Japan. The game is also historically important because its mechanics and character designs were later adapted for the international version of Super Mario Bros. 2.
