How it plays

How does The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX play?

Players explore Koholint Island from a top-down perspective, entering caves, houses, shops, side-scrolling passages, and eight main dungeons. The objective is to collect dungeon instruments, defeat bosses, and progress toward awakening the Wind Fish.

Link attacks with a sword, blocks with a shield, uses items assigned to two buttons, and solves environmental puzzles by finding keys and dungeon tools. New equipment opens previously inaccessible routes, while heart containers and pieces increase survivability. Optional activities include trading, fishing, shell collection, and a photograph side quest in the DX version.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX?

Explore each new area thoroughly and note obstacles that cannot yet be solved. Dungeon maps, compasses, keys, and special tools are all important, so search side rooms rather than rushing toward the boss.

Assign the sword, shield, and utility items according to the situation. Collect heart pieces and secret seashells when convenient, and revisit earlier locations after obtaining new equipment. Save regularly, especially before entering unfamiliar dungeons or attempting optional challenges.
