How it plays
The camera follows Sarge from behind in fully 3D environments. Missions usually require reaching a destination, eliminating enemy units, protecting allies, recovering an item, or completing another battlefield objective.
Players run, jump, aim, fire, change weapons, collect ammunition, and use environmental cover. The campaign includes on-foot missions and selected vehicle sequences, with multiple weapons suited to different ranges. Progression comes from completing missions and advancing through the campaign rather than from character statistics or a conventional experience system.
Plan your run
Use cover and keep moving when fighting groups of Tan soldiers. Different weapons are more useful at different distances, so conserve ammunition for enemies that are difficult to approach.
Explore around the main route for ammunition and safer firing positions. During objective missions, clear nearby threats before interacting with the target, and learn the layout of each area before attempting a timed or protected escape.

Before you begin
Use the camera to check corners before crossing open ground.
Save powerful ammunition for armored or heavily defended enemies.
Read the objective carefully; some missions prioritize reaching a location rather than defeating every enemy.
Army Men: Sarge's Heroes is a third-person action shooter developed and published by The 3DO Company for the Nintendo 64. It places players in control of Sarge, a green plastic soldier leading a campaign against the Tan army. Missions move between oversized household locations and toy-like outdoor battlefields, turning ordinary objects into cover, hazards, and tactical landmarks. The game combines shooting, exploration, light platforming, vehicle sections, and objective-based missions. Its campaign is structured around a sequence of operations rather than a simple score attack, with new weapons and situations appearing as the story advances. Reception was mixed but generally recognized the game for its colorful presentation, accessible controls, and unusual miniature-war setting, while criticism often focused on uneven enemy behavior and technical limitations.
