How it plays
How does Axelay play?
Axelay alternates between horizontal and vertical-scrolling stages. Each stage requires the player to steer the spacecraft, destroy enemies, avoid terrain and projectiles, and defeat a large end-of-stage boss.
The ship carries three weapon types with different firing patterns. The currently selected weapon can be changed during play, while losing a life affects the available arsenal. Progression is linear through the campaign, with no character customization or branching map.

What is the best way to play Axelay?
Choose the weapon pattern that best matches the current formation rather than firing continuously with one option. Preserve wide or defensive weapons for crowded sections and learn when bosses change attack patterns.
Stay near the safer side of the screen, make small movements, and prioritize projectiles and enemies that can trap the ship. Because weapon availability is limited after mistakes, avoid risky attacks when a boss is close to defeat.
