About Super Nintendo Entertainment System

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), called the Super Famicom in Japan, was Nintendo’s 16-bit home console and one of the defining systems of the early 1990s. It competed directly with Sega’s Genesis/Mega Drive and became famous for its strong first-party lineup, technical enhancements through cartridges, and excellent support from third-party publishers.

Its hardware emphasized colorful 2D graphics, layered scrolling, and a versatile sound chip that gave many games a distinctive audio identity. The SNES library is remembered for landmark action, RPG, platform, and fighting games, and the system had a major influence on console design, game art direction, and genre standards.
