How it plays
The game uses a third-person perspective. Banjo and Kazooie explore the Isle o' Hags, enter themed worlds through special portals, complete tasks, defeat enemies, and collect Jiggies, musical notes, Jinjos, Glowbos, and other items.
Players learn new moves from Jamjars, use Mumbo's magic and Mumbo Tokens, and sometimes transform Banjo into different forms. Many objectives require abilities learned later, so returning to earlier areas is part of normal progression. Cooperative two-player modes are also available outside the main adventure.
Plan your run
Explore each world thoroughly, but do not insist on finishing every objective immediately. Many Jiggies and shortcuts depend on moves or events obtained later.
Keep track of doors, switches, isolated platforms, and passages that seem inaccessible. Visit Jamjars whenever possible, collect Glowbos for Mumbo, and use Banjo-Kazooie team moves to cover ground efficiently. In combat, learn which attack is safest for each enemy rather than relying on one move.

Banjo-Tooie is a 3D action-adventure platformer developed by Rare and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64. It follows bear Banjo and bird Kazooie as they oppose Gruntilda and two other witch sisters, who return to wreak havoc across the Isle o' Hags. The game combines exploration, platforming, puzzle solving, combat, and collectible hunting across large interconnected worlds. Compared with its predecessor, it offers broader environments, more abilities, transformation challenges, and stronger links between areas. Its dense level design and inventive moves were widely praised, although some players found the increased complexity and backtracking demanding. It is regarded as one of the Nintendo 64's major late-era platformers.
