How it plays

How does Blackthorne play?

Blackthorne uses a side-view perspective across connected stages on the planet Tuul. The main objectives are to explore each area, defeat enemies, find keys or switches, rescue Gavemen, and reach the exit.

Kyle can run, jump, crouch, climb, fire in several directions, and use objects found in the environment. Progress depends on learning enemy patterns, positioning carefully, and solving simple environmental puzzles. The SNES version is structured as a linear sequence of levels with password-based continuation rather than a save system.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Blackthorne?

Treat every screen as a positioning puzzle rather than rushing forward. Draw the shotgun before entering exposed areas, use crouching or rolling to avoid incoming fire, and eliminate enemies from the safest available angle.

Search side paths for keys, switches, ammunition, and rescued Gavemen. Conserve health by learning enemy timing, and remember that some hazards are easier to bypass than to fight.
