How it plays
The game uses a horizontal side-scrolling perspective. The objective is to advance through enemy territory, defeat soldiers and vehicles, collect weapons and supplies, and reach the end of each stage while protecting the commando from repeated attacks.
Stages are structured as linear combat routes with platforming sections, ambushes, hazards, and boss encounters. The player can move, jump, fire, and use close-range attacks. Progress depends on learning enemy positions, choosing suitable weapons, and conserving health and ammunition for tougher sections.
Plan your run
Use the starting weapon carefully and collect stronger firearms whenever they appear. Avoid rushing into groups: enemies often attack from both sides or emerge from fixed ambush points.
Keep moving during open firefights, but pause before jumps and boss patterns. Save health-restoring items for later sections when possible, and prioritize enemies that can attack from a distance.
Meet the cast
The special forces operative controlled by the player, sent to infiltrate enemy territory and rescue the president.
Before you begin
Learn the position of fixed ambushes before attempting to sprint through a stage.
Use jumps to avoid crowded ground attacks rather than trading damage.
Bloody Wolf is a side-scrolling action game developed and published by Data East for the PC Engine. The player controls an elite commando sent behind enemy lines to rescue a captured president and break through a heavily guarded military operation. Its play style combines run-and-gun shooting, close-range attacks, jumping, and occasional weapon changes across a sequence of combat stages. The game is a home-console adaptation of Data East’s arcade action design, with a more focused one-player presentation. It is remembered for its fast pace, large weapon variety, and demanding enemy encounters, although its difficulty and rough collision behavior can make progress uneven.
