How it plays
The game uses a top-down maze perspective. In the campaign, Bomberman clears each stage by destroying enemies and finding the exit, while soft blocks conceal useful items. Explosions travel along the grid until they meet a solid wall or run out of range.
Players move through corridors, place bombs, and escape before the fuses expire. Upgrades can increase bomb count, blast range, or movement options. Multiplayer matches use the same rules but focus on trapping rival bombers in a shared arena.
Plan your run
At the beginning of a stage, clear nearby soft blocks while keeping at least one escape route open. Do not place a bomb in a corridor unless you can reach a safe perpendicular lane before the fuse ends.
Prioritize blast-range and bomb-count upgrades, but treat every power-up as secondary to survival. In multiplayer, use chain reactions and blocked passages to control space, and avoid following an opponent into a corridor with no visible exit.
Meet the cast
The playable bomber who navigates maze stages, places bombs, collects power-ups, and battles enemies or rival players.
Before you begin
Keep a clear route around every bomb you place.
Use soft blocks as temporary cover, but remember that explosions destroy them.
In multiplayer, watch the entire arena rather than focusing only on your own bomber.
Bomberman '93 is a maze-based action game developed and published by Hudson Soft for the PC Engine. It builds on the series’ bomb-placement formula: the player guides Bomberman through enclosed stages, destroys soft blocks, and uses expanding blast patterns to defeat enemies. The game combines a single-player campaign with competitive multiplayer, making careful positioning as important as quick movement. Power-ups gradually expand the player’s tactical options, while bombs can also create danger by blocking escape routes. Released in 1993, it was well regarded for its responsive controls, accessible rules, and strong multiplayer design. Its bright presentation and compact stages made it a notable PC Engine entry and a durable example of the classic Bomberman format.
