How it plays
Bonk moves through horizontally scrolling stages filled with platforms, hazards, enemies, bonus items, and boss encounters. He defeats most enemies by jumping and striking with his head, while the directional pad controls movement and Button I or Button II perform the documented actions.
Collectible food restores health or changes Bonk's condition. Taking damage reduces his life, while certain foods grant temporary abilities or transformations. Stages usually end with a boss battle, and progress follows a linear sequence through prehistoric environments.
Plan your run
Use Bonk's jump and headbutt together rather than attacking enemies from the ground whenever possible. A headbutt can also help clear obstacles and maintain control over enemy encounters.
Watch the pattern of each boss before committing to an attack. Preserve useful food items for difficult sections, and avoid rushing into pits or hazards after taking damage.

Bonk's Adventure is a side-scrolling action platformer developed by Red Company and Atlus and published by Hudson Soft for the PC Engine. It stars Bonk, a powerful caveboy who travels through a prehistoric world to rescue Princess Za from the dinosaur king King Drool. The game combines traditional platforming with headbutt-based combat, unusual enemy designs, and temporary food-powered transformations. Its bright presentation and expressive animation helped it become one of the PC Engine's best-known character games, while the TurboGrafx-16 release introduced Bonk to North American players. Reception was generally positive, especially for its controls, humor, and distinctive visual style.
