How it plays
The game uses a top-down perspective on grid-based arenas. In the adventure, Bomberman clears enemies and destructible blocks, collects power-ups, and reaches the stage exit before facing area bosses.
Bomb explosions travel in the four cardinal directions until they hit an indestructible wall or consume their available range. Players must plan chain reactions, avoid blast paths, and use upgrades such as increased firepower or additional bombs.
Battle Mode places competitors in enclosed arenas where the objective is to eliminate the other Bombermen. Different arena layouts and item effects make timing, spacing, and bomb trapping central to progression and survival.
Plan your run
Start by opening only enough space to create safe escape routes. Never place a bomb without checking whether a wall, enemy, or another bomb can block your path.
Prioritize firepower and bomb-count upgrades, but treat increased range as a hazard until you learn the arena. In Battle Mode, use chain reactions and temporary hiding spots rather than chasing opponents directly.

Bomberman '94 is an action-maze game developed and published by Hudson Soft for the PC Engine. Its core premise follows Bomberman through a series of enclosed stages where bombs destroy blocks, defeat enemies, and open routes toward the exit. The game combines deliberate positioning with quick movement, since Bomberman can be caught by his own blasts as easily as by an opponent. A solo adventure provides structured areas and boss encounters, while Battle Mode supports competitive play with multiple participants through the appropriate multitap setup. The game was well received for its colorful presentation, responsive controls, varied power-ups, and especially its strong multiplayer design. It is commonly regarded as one of the PC Engine’s notable Bomberman releases.
