Bomberman
The series mascot and the visual theme of the puzzle pieces and opponents.
How it plays
The playfield is viewed from the side, with pieces falling into a vertical grid. The objective is to arrange matching pieces and bomb panels so that groups are cleared, while avoiding a stack that reaches the top.
Players can move and arrange falling pieces, trigger bombs, and build chains. Successful clears can send obstruction pieces to the opposing field. Depending on the mode, the game supports solo progression against computer opponents and competitive play, with the winner determined when the other field becomes blocked.
Plan your run
Plan around the next falling piece instead of clearing every group immediately. Leave room near the bottom and try to connect several bomb activations into one chain.
During competitive play, prioritize safe clears when your field is high. Large chains are powerful, but a failed setup can leave the stack too tall to recover.
Meet the cast

Before you begin
Keep the upper part of the field open so incoming pieces do not force an immediate loss.
Build chains from the bottom upward and avoid spending every bomb panel at once.
Watch the opponent’s field and clear defensively when a blocking attack is imminent.
Bomberman: Panic Bomber is a puzzle game developed and published by Hudson Soft for the PC Engine. It transforms the Bomberman concept into a competitive falling-block format: players arrange colored pieces and use bomb panels to clear groups and create chain reactions. The game is built around quick decisions, escalating pressure, and sending trouble to an opponent rather than exploring a maze. Its presentation and characters draw from the Bomberman series, while the core play is closer to an arcade puzzle duel. The PC Engine release is remembered as an early console version of Panic Bomber, although it received less international attention than the series’ action games.
