How it plays
The game uses a side-view perspective. Bubsy runs through horizontally scrolling stages, collects balls of yarn, avoids hazards, defeats or bypasses enemies, and reaches the level exit.
Stages contain branching routes, moving platforms, hidden areas, and time-sensitive movement challenges. Bubsy can jump, accelerate, and use his tails to slow a fall. The campaign progresses through multiple themed areas, with limited lives and continues making careful exploration important.
Plan your run
Learn to control Bubsy's momentum before attempting speed routes. Slow down near blind drops, moving hazards, and enemies, since his speed can turn a safe jump into a fatal collision.
Collect yarn when practical, but prioritize survival and route knowledge. Explore suspicious walls and alternate paths for hidden areas, and use the tail glide to correct long jumps and land safely.
Meet the cast
A fast-talking bobcat and the playable protagonist, determined to stop the Woolies from stealing Earth's yarn.
Alien sheep who invade Earth to collect its yarn; they serve as the game's recurring enemies.
Before you begin
Use short movements near ledges instead of holding a direction continuously.
Look for alternate routes and hidden collectibles in apparently empty sections.
Treat extra lives and continues as limited resources while learning each stage.
Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind is a 1993 side-scrolling platform game developed and published by Accolade for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Players control Bubsy, an unusually fast bobcat whose world is threatened by yarn-stealing extraterrestrial sheep called Woolies. The game combines quick movement, jumping, collectibles, hazards, and cartoon comedy across large stages. Its high-speed controls and distinctive character attracted attention, while the title also received mixed historical reception because of uneven level design, awkward collision behavior, and punishing mistakes. It remains a recognizable early-1990s mascot platformer and the starting point for the Bubsy series.
