How it plays

How does Cannon Fodder play?

The game uses a top-down, cursor-based battlefield view. Missions usually require the squad to reach an objective, eliminate hostile forces, destroy targets, or escape while preserving as many soldiers as possible.

Players select infantry, move them across scrolling terrain, and use firearms or explosives against enemies and structures. Missions are grouped into campaigns, with later operations introducing tougher opposition, more dangerous terrain, and heavier weapons. Surviving soldiers gain experience and are carried forward, but casualties are permanent within the campaign.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Cannon Fodder?

Keep the squad spread enough to reduce losses from explosions, but close enough that selected soldiers can be controlled quickly.

  • Move cautiously around mines, water, buildings, and narrow passages.
  • Eliminate machine-gun positions and vehicles before exposing the main group.
  • Treat experienced survivors as valuable; avoid spending them on unnecessary fights.
  • Check the objective and escape route before advancing into an unfamiliar area.
