How it plays

How does Clay Fighter: Tournament Edition play?

Matches are presented from a side-on perspective. The objective is to reduce the opponent’s life bar before the round timer expires, with victory generally requiring the appropriate number of round wins.

Players move, jump, attack, block or evade, and use character-specific special moves. Tournament progression sends the selected fighter through a sequence of opponents, while versus play supports direct matches between players or against the computer. Exact move inputs can vary by character and version.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Clay Fighter: Tournament Edition?

Learn the reach and recovery of one reliable normal attack before relying on special moves. Keep enough distance to react to jumps and unsafe approaches, then punish missed attacks rather than trading damage.

In tournament play, conserve life whenever possible: a difficult victory with very little remaining health can make the next match substantially harder. Test each fighter’s special-move timing in versus mode before attempting a full run.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Use the practice opportunities in versus matches to learn each fighter’s range.

  2. 2

Do not spend every attack at maximum distance; many moves are easier to punish when they miss.

  3. 3

Watch the round timer when both fighters are low on health.
