How it plays

How does Command & Conquer play?

The game uses a top-down, scrolling battlefield view. Each mission requires objectives such as establishing a base, protecting an installation, gathering Tiberium, destroying enemy forces, or capturing key structures.

Players place construction facilities, generate power, build defenses and vehicles, and deploy infantry and specialized units. Tiberium harvesting funds production, while base placement, reconnaissance, unit selection, and attack orders determine the pace of an operation. The single-player game contains separate GDI and Nod campaign paths, and the Nintendo 64 release also provides multiplayer scenarios for two players.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Command & Conquer?

Secure a Tiberium field before expanding production, and protect harvesters with defenses or combat units. Power shortages can disable base structures, so add power plants before constructing a large number of facilities.

Scout the map before committing your main force. Mix unit types, focus fire on high-value targets, and preserve experienced forces when the mission allows it. In campaign missions, read the objective carefully: destroying every enemy is not always required, and some objectives are easier to complete with a small raiding force.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Place defensive structures where they cover your refinery, construction yard, and likely approach routes.

  2. 2

Keep repairable or veteran units alive; replacing an experienced force is often more expensive than waiting for repairs.
