How it plays

How does The 3rd Super Robot Wars play?

Battles use a top-down grid perspective. The player moves allied units, selects weapons, manages spirit commands, and attacks enemy units while pursuing map-specific objectives such as defeating a boss, protecting an ally, or eliminating all opponents.

Stages are divided into player and enemy phases. Units gain experience and money, can be upgraded between missions, and may receive new weapons or story-based improvements. Pilot morale affects available attacks and performance, while dialogue and battlefield events advance the crossover story.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play The 3rd Super Robot Wars?

Conserve spirit commands for decisive attacks, difficult bosses, and survival situations rather than spending them on routine enemies.

Upgrade dependable units first, especially weapons on high-damage machines and armor or mobility on units that must withstand repeated attacks. Check enemy ranges before ending a turn, and use terrain and map position to reduce incoming damage.

Morale is important: allow pilots to participate in safe engagements so powerful weapons become available, but avoid exposing fragile units merely to raise morale.
