How it plays
Arthur advances through side-scrolling stages filled with undead enemies, traps, platforms, and bosses. He can throw weapons horizontally, jump, climb ladders, and collect armor that protects him from one hit.
The game contains multiple weapons with different attack patterns. Reaching a stage boss opens the route forward, but completing the first loop is not enough: the second playthrough requires a specific weapon to enter the final area. Arthur returns to a weaker state after taking damage, and a second hit kills him unless he finds replacement armor.
Plan your run
Learn enemy placement and use short, deliberate jumps rather than rushing. Keep armor whenever possible, and choose weapons according to the stage: axes and torches can be useful against clustered or elevated enemies, while the standard lance is reliable at distance.
Do not discard the required weapon before the final sequence. Because the second loop is mandatory, preserve lives and prioritize safe positioning over collecting every item.

Before you begin
Use the jump arc carefully; Arthur cannot change direction freely in midair.
Destroy weapon-containment chests from a safe position, since their contents can be harmful or inconvenient.
The game must be completed twice, and the correct weapon is required for the final confrontation.
Daimakaimura is the PC Engine SuperGrafx conversion of Capcom's arcade action platformer Ghouls 'n Ghosts. Developed by Capcom and published by NEC Avenue, it follows the knight Arthur as he battles through haunted castles, forests, graveyards, and other demon-infested stages to rescue Princess Prin-Prin. The game emphasizes precise running, jumping, weapon use, and enemy memorization rather than free exploration. Its armor system and demanding two-loop structure make survival a central part of the experience. The SuperGrafx version is notable for adapting a technically ambitious arcade title to NEC's enhanced console hardware, although players and reviewers have often compared its audiovisual presentation and difficulty with the arcade original.
