How it plays
Players control Firebrand from a side-scrolling perspective. Each stage contains platforms, enemies, hazards, hidden routes, and a boss guarding a crest or another important reward.
Firebrand can jump, cling to walls, fly for limited periods, breathe fire, and use crest-based abilities. New crests alter his form and open previously inaccessible routes. The overworld map allows stages to be revisited, while optional bosses, shops, life upgrades, and collectible vials support exploration and multiple endings.
Plan your run
Learn the range and recovery time of Firebrand’s fire attack before taking risks. Wall-clinging and controlled flying are essential for avoiding hazards and reaching concealed platforms.
Revisit earlier areas after obtaining new crests. Search for vials, life extensions, and hidden rooms, and avoid selling or overlooking useful items because exploration affects the available ending.

Demon’s Crest is a dark action platformer developed and published by Capcom for the Super Nintendo. It follows Firebrand, the gargoyle demon from the Gargoyle’s Quest games, after he loses the magical crests that grant him new powers. Players explore interconnected stages, defeat bosses, and recover crests that expand Firebrand’s movement and combat abilities. The game combines traditional platforming with exploration and light role-playing elements, including an overworld map and optional encounters. Its gothic atmosphere, detailed pixel art, demanding combat, and multiple endings earned it strong critical appreciation, although its difficulty and limited release kept it less widely known than Capcom’s other 16-bit action games.
