How it plays
Capsules fall into a bottle viewed from above. Rotate and position each capsule so that horizontal or vertical groups of at least three matching colors remove viruses and capsule segments.
Players can clear viruses in single-player stages, race another player, or compete in score-focused modes. Removing viruses opens space for further placements, while increasing speed and chained clears raise the difficulty and scoring potential.
Plan your run
Prioritize opening the lower and central areas of the bottle before building tall stacks. Plan both colors of each capsule rather than placing only the immediately useful half.
Use chain reactions when possible, but avoid creating isolated segments that cannot be matched. In versus play, clear quickly and send disruptive garbage to restrict the opponent's space.
Meet the cast
The playable doctor who uses medical capsules to eliminate viruses.
A rival who appears in the story and competitive presentation.
Colored enemies that must be removed by matching them with capsule segments.
Before you begin
Keep the bottle low so later capsules remain easy to place.
Watch the next capsule and prepare both possible orientations.
In versus play, speed matters, but an unsafe stack can reverse the match quickly.
Dr. Mario 64 is a falling-block puzzle game developed by Nintendo R&D1 and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64. Players control Dr. Mario as he clears colored viruses from a bottle by arranging two-color capsules and making matches of three or more identical colors. The game combines the rules of the original Dr. Mario with several competitive and story-based modes, including a crossover involving Wario. Its bright presentation, quick controls, and escalating speed make it accessible for beginners while preserving a demanding high-level game. It was generally well received for expanding the series with multiplayer options and a broader set of modes.
