How it plays
The game uses a top-down perspective for travel and first-person menus for combat. The hero explores towns, fields, towers, caves, and other locations while speaking with residents, purchasing equipment, solving progression puzzles, and searching containers and terrain.
Battles are turn-based. Players issue commands such as attack, cast spells, defend, use items, or flee, then receive experience and gold. A party can contain characters from different vocations, and later class changes allow long-term customization. The adventure progresses through key items, story discoveries, stronger equipment, and access to new regions.
Plan your run
Build a balanced party with dependable physical damage, healing, and offensive magic. Keep several healing items available before entering caves or towers, and return to an inn when spell points are low.
Explore thoroughly and speak with townspeople after major story events. Equipment upgrades and class choices matter greatly, while a well-timed class change can create a stronger party for the later game.

Dragon Warrior III is a fantasy role-playing game developed by Chunsoft and published by Enix for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The player controls the child of the legendary hero Ortega, who sets out to defeat the archfiend Baramos and protect the world. Exploration, turn-based battles, equipment management, and town-based storytelling form the core experience. Its party-building system lets players recruit companions and change their vocations, giving the adventure more strategic flexibility than its predecessors. The game was widely praised for its scale, polished presentation, memorable music, and ambitious story structure. Its NES release is regarded as one of the system’s most influential Japanese role-playing games, although the English localization uses the Dragon Warrior name and differs in some text and presentation details.
