How it plays
The game uses a first-person perspective. Players guide Duke through episodic levels, eliminate alien enemies, locate key items, activate switches, and reach the exit. Levels include destructible objects, secret areas, locked doors, water sections, and environmental hazards.
Duke can use firearms, explosives, and special items while managing health, armor, ammunition, and temporary power-ups. The Nintendo 64 version supports a single-player campaign and multiplayer options, including cooperative play and competitive arena matches. Progression is based on completing levels and episodes rather than gaining character levels.
Plan your run
Search rooms and side paths before leaving an area; secret locations often contain ammunition, armor, health, or powerful weapons.
Conserve explosive ammunition for groups and durable enemies. Use the environment whenever possible, watch for interactive objects, and keep a reserve of health and armor before major encounters.

Duke Nukem 64 is a first-person shooter developed by Eurocom and published by GT Interactive for the Nintendo 64 in 1997. It adapts the content and structure of Duke Nukem 3D, placing Duke in a modern Los Angeles overrun by hostile aliens. The campaign mixes gunplay, exploration, environmental puzzles, interactive scenery, and deliberately crude humor. This version includes console-specific changes, including modified levels, censored content, and a cooperative multiplayer mode. Critics generally viewed it as a strong console conversion with entertaining action, although its controls, reduced visual detail, and missing PC features were noted limitations. Its Nintendo 64 release remains one of the better-known home-console versions of Duke Nukem 3D.
