Lord Piergeiron
The Open Lord of Waterdeep, who sends the party beneath the city to investigate a dangerous threat.
How it plays
The party explores maze-like locations from a first-person viewpoint. Movement proceeds through square-based corridors, while doors, walls, containers, traps, secret passages, and treasures reward careful searching.
Combat occurs in real time against monsters occupying nearby spaces. Characters use weapons, memorized spells, items, and class abilities; defeated enemies provide experience and access to deeper areas. Progress depends on solving environmental obstacles, managing supplies, and improving the party through the AD&D rule system.
Plan your run
Search every wall, alcove, container, and dead end; important switches and secret doors are easy to miss.
Conserve healing, ammunition, and spell slots. Rest only in safe areas when possible, and keep a balanced party with reliable front-line fighters, divine healing, and offensive or utility magic.

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Eye of the Beholder is a first-person fantasy role-playing game developed by Westwood Associates and adapted for Super Nintendo by Capcom. The player leads a small adventuring party into the sewers and ruins beneath Waterdeep after the city’s authorities request an investigation. Exploration, real-time combat, spell management, and character development form the core of the experience. The SNES version presents the computer original’s dungeon-crawling structure through a controller-based interface and streamlined presentation. It was generally recognized as a substantial console adaptation of a demanding computer RPG, although its slower pace and complex rules appeal most to players who enjoy methodical exploration.
