How it plays

How does Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Eye of the Beholder play?

The party explores maze-like locations from a first-person viewpoint. Movement proceeds through square-based corridors, while doors, walls, containers, traps, secret passages, and treasures reward careful searching.

Combat occurs in real time against monsters occupying nearby spaces. Characters use weapons, memorized spells, items, and class abilities; defeated enemies provide experience and access to deeper areas. Progress depends on solving environmental obstacles, managing supplies, and improving the party through the AD&D rule system.
