How it plays

How does Final Fantasy V play?

The game uses a top-down exploration view for towns, fields, caves, and dungeons, with a first-person battle view during turn-based encounters. The party travels between areas, speaks with characters, collects equipment, and solves environmental obstacles.

Combat is organized around the Active Time Battle system. Characters select commands such as attacking, casting magic, using items, or activating job abilities. Progression centers on gaining job points, unlocking abilities, and equipping learned abilities across different jobs.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Final Fantasy V?

Build jobs with complementary abilities rather than relying on a single fixed class. Mastering useful abilities and carrying them into other jobs can dramatically improve party flexibility.

Keep multiple elemental attacks, status protection, healing, and revival options available. Explore thoroughly for hidden passages, optional equipment, and summons, and save before major story encounters.
