How it plays
Players command a group of units from a top-down grid perspective. Each chapter requires objectives such as seizing a castle, defeating an enemy leader, or protecting key units. Units move, attack, use items, trade, and capture or defend castles across broad maps.
Chapters are connected by a world map and castle-management phase. Gold, shops, arenas, skills, weapon ranks, and support relationships shape progression. The second generation inherits equipment-related benefits, holy-blood traits, and other effects from the first generation’s pairings.
Plan your run
Plan movement around enemy ranges and remember that defeated units normally cannot return. Keep fragile units away from large enemy formations, use terrain and forests to improve survivability, and save before major engagements when possible.
Use the arena and castles to manage money, repair important weapons, and build support relationships. Track inheritance carefully: pairing choices affect the children’s skills, holy blood, starting equipment, and available growth opportunities.

Developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War is a turn-based tactical role-playing game for the Super Famicom. It follows Sigurd and, later, his son Seliph as political conflict, ancient bloodlines, and the twelve Holy Weapons shape the fate of Jugdral. The game is defined by unusually large battlefields, linked chapters, and a generational structure in which relationships formed by the first generation affect the second. Its permanent-death system makes every decision significant. Although it was released only in Japan, it received strong critical and fan recognition for its ambitious narrative, strategic depth, and distinctive mechanics.
