How it plays
Flashback uses a side-view perspective with screen-by-screen areas connected into larger stages. Conrad must reach objectives, find access cards and other items, operate terminals, avoid traps, and defeat or evade enemies. Movement includes running, jumping, climbing ledges, drawing a pistol, and interacting with objects.
The campaign is divided into missions set on different worlds and locations. Progress depends on observing environmental clues and using the correct item at the right place rather than simply defeating every opponent. Lives and limited resources make mistakes costly, while later missions introduce more complex hazards, puzzles, and enemy encounters.
Plan your run
Observe each screen before moving. Many deaths come from rushing into traps or enemy fire rather than from difficult combat.

Flashback: The Quest for Identity is a cinematic action-adventure platformer developed by Delphine Software International and published on Super Nintendo by U.S. Gold. The game follows Conrad B. Hart, an amnesiac agent stranded on an alien world after fleeing an assassination attempt. Players explore dangerous environments, recover weapons and equipment, and gradually reconstruct Conrad's past while investigating a conflict involving Earth and the Morphs. Its rotoscoped animation, deliberate movement, and science-fiction mystery gave it a distinctive identity among early-1990s console adventures. The SNES version preserves the careful exploration and dramatic presentation of the original while adapting the game for Nintendo's hardware. It was widely recognized for its animation, atmosphere, and ambitious storytelling, although its precise controls and unforgiving hazards demand patience.
