Shiren
A wandering swordsman who explores Mount Nebri in search of the Golden Condor.
How it plays
Shiren moves through randomly generated floors from a top-down perspective. The main objective is to descend through Mount Nebri and reach the Golden Condor, while fighting monsters, opening rooms, identifying items, and managing hunger.
Every movement consumes a turn. Weapons, shields, bracelets, scrolls, staves, arrows, pots, and food change how each expedition develops. Towns and other fixed locations provide recovery and services, while dungeons use traps, shops, monster houses, and stairways to create different tactical problems.
The story route includes several named areas and culminates in a major confrontation. Defeat can remove equipment and supplies, but Shiren retains knowledge of dungeon behavior and can rebuild through later attempts.
Plan your run
Treat every turn as meaningful: do not move next to a monster unless the exchange benefits Shiren. Keep food for long floors, reserve scrolls and staves for dangerous encounters, and avoid spending unidentified items when a safe test is unavailable.
Use chokepoints to fight one monster at a time, retreat toward stairs when supplies are failing, and check shops carefully before picking up valuable items. A strong weapon is not enough by itself; shields, bracelets, status effects, traps, and escape items often decide whether a run reaches the next area.

Fushigi no Dungeon 2: Fūrai no Shiren is a turn-based roguelike role-playing game developed and published by Chunsoft for the Super Famicom. It follows the wandering swordsman Shiren and his talking weasel companion Koppa as they travel toward the legendary Golden Condor. Each dungeon floor is randomly generated, and every step advances the turn-based world, making food, equipment, scrolls, and escape items important decisions. Defeat sends Shiren back to an earlier state while many carried resources are lost, so each expedition is both exploration and risk management. The game was widely praised for refining the Mystery Dungeon formula with a distinctive Japanese setting, strategic item interactions, and memorable challenge. This entry later became the foundation for the Shiren the Wanderer series.
