How it plays
Players view the world from Bond’s first-person perspective and complete missions in locations drawn from the film. Objectives can include recovering items, photographing evidence, rescuing allies, activating equipment, or escaping after completing the main task.
Bond can move, aim, use firearms, interact with mission objects, and occasionally employ gadgets. Missions are grouped into difficulty levels, with higher settings adding objectives and making enemies more dangerous. The game also includes split-screen multiplayer modes with selectable arenas, weapons, and match rules.
Plan your run
Study the objective list before engaging enemies, because many missions require specific tasks in addition to reaching the exit. Use accurate single shots when possible, conserve ammunition, and avoid triggering alarms when stealth is part of the objective.
On higher difficulties, search rooms carefully for key items and use cover around doorways. In multiplayer, learn spawn points and weapon locations, and choose routes that provide both escape options and line-of-sight control.

Editorial context
A landmark console first-person shooter known for its flexible objectives and exceptional four-player split-screen mode.
The controls and frame rate can feel dated, but the level design remains highly influential.
GoldenEye 007 is a first-person shooter developed by Rare and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64. Based on the 1995 James Bond film, it follows agent 007 as he investigates the theft of a satellite weapon and confronts the criminal organization Janus. The campaign combines gunfights, infiltration, exploration, and mission objectives rather than relying only on enemy elimination. Its level design, varied objectives, accurate-feeling weapons, and four-player split-screen multiplayer were widely praised. GoldenEye 007 became one of the most influential console shooters of its era and helped establish the Nintendo 64 as a strong multiplayer platform.
