How it plays

How does The Great Battle III play?

The game uses a side-view perspective and sends the selected hero through a sequence of scrolling stages. Movement, jumping, attacks, enemy encounters, hazards, and boss battles are combined within each level rather than separated into a menu-based combat mode.

Gundam, Ultraman, and Kamen Rider provide different hero identities and attack styles. Progression comes from clearing stages and defeating their end bosses; the available route and stage objectives are tied to the campaign rather than to character-stat development. The SNES version is designed primarily for one-player play.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play The Great Battle III?

Learn the attack range of the selected hero before committing to groups of enemies. In the scrolling stages, move cautiously around pits and fixed hazards instead of treating every encounter as a rush forward.

Save the strongest attack or safest position for boss patterns, and use the full width of the screen to avoid being cornered. Because each hero handles differently, replaying an early stage with another character is useful for learning which attacks are safest at close range.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Use short attacks while approaching enemies so the hero can jump or retreat before a counterattack.

  2. 2

Watch the lower and upper edges of the scrolling screen for hazards before advancing.

  3. 3

Try all three heroes; their weapon reach and movement feel different.
