How it plays
The game uses a third-person overhead perspective around the farm and village. Each day, the player chooses how to spend stamina and time: clear land, till soil, plant and water crops, gather items, care for livestock, fish, shop, or visit villagers.
The year is divided into four seasons with different crops, events, and opportunities. Money from farm products funds seeds, animals, tools, and facility improvements. Relationships develop through conversations, gifts, festivals, and story events; courtship can lead to marriage and a larger family. Weather, fatigue, and the clock make planning important.
Plan your run
Plan each morning before spending stamina. Prioritize clearing only the land needed for the next crop cycle, and keep enough energy for watering and animal care.
Give villagers regular gifts and attend seasonal festivals. Save money for a rucksack, tools, livestock, and farm buildings, but avoid buying more animals than you can feed and care for consistently.
Meet the cast

Before you begin
Save before major festivals or important relationship events so you can retry a disappointing outcome.
Do not exhaust all stamina early in the day; evening chores and unexpected events still require energy.
Editorial context
Players often praise the relaxed seasonal routine, memorable villagers, and strong sense of progression.
Common criticisms include a demanding first year, limited explanations, and occasional control or translation roughness.
Harvest Moon 64 is a farming and life simulation game developed by Victor Interactive Software and published internationally by Natsume for the Nintendo 64. The player inherits an overgrown farm and has several in-game years to restore it while raising animals, growing crops, and becoming part of a nearby village. Days are organized around a limited stamina supply and a changing calendar of festivals, weather, and seasonal work. The game combines open-ended farm management with relationship-building and light role-playing progression. It was well received for bringing the series’ detailed routines and character events to a console audience, although its time limits and sometimes opaque systems can make the early game demanding.
