How it plays

How does Illusion of Gaia play?

The game uses a top-down perspective for towns, fields, and most dungeons. Will explores each area, talks to characters, solves environmental puzzles, and fights monsters in real time. His standard attack is supplemented by movement abilities and transformation powers.

Progression is mainly story-based. Completing dungeons and defeating bosses advances the journey, while Dark Space locations allow Will to change into forms such as Freedan and Shadow. These forms provide different attacks and traversal abilities needed to overcome later obstacles.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Illusion of Gaia?

Explore each room carefully before moving on; switches, hidden paths, and movable objects often control dungeon progression.

Use Will for mobility, Freedan for stronger melee damage, and Shadow for abilities that the other forms cannot perform. Save healing items for boss encounters, learn attack ranges, and avoid trading damage unnecessarily.
