How it plays
The game is viewed from a horizontal side-scrolling perspective. Players advance through six stages, defeating waves of soldiers, monsters, and armored opponents before confronting a stage boss.
Arthur, Lancelot, and Perceval use normal attacks, jumping attacks, defensive actions, and a limited special attack. Enemies can drop food for health and money that improves equipment. As the adventure continues, the knights gain stronger weapons and armor, while later stages increase enemy variety and difficulty.
Plan your run
Stay near the center of the screen so approaching enemies remain visible, and avoid being surrounded. Prioritize archers and other ranged attackers before engaging slower armored enemies.
Use the guard or defensive timing against large attacks, then punish enemies during their recovery. Collect food immediately when health is low, and preserve the special attack for bosses or dense groups rather than spending it on isolated enemies.
Meet the cast
A balanced knight with dependable attack power, reach, and speed.
A fast swordsman whose mobility and attack speed compensate for lighter power.
A powerful fighter with strong attacks and slower movement.
Before you begin
Use each knight according to his strengths: Lancelot for speed, Perceval for power, and Arthur for balance.
Break or attack treasure containers when safe, since food and money are valuable during longer stages.
Bosses are easier when attacked after their committed animation rather than during their initial approach.
Knights of the Round is a medieval fantasy beat 'em up developed and published by Capcom. Adapted from Capcom's 1991 arcade game, the SNES version follows Arthur, Lancelot, and Perceval as they fight across a fictionalized Britain to defeat the usurper Garibaldi and restore order. The game uses side-scrolling stages, responsive melee attacks, jumping, guarding, and weapon upgrades rather than exploration or inventory management. Each knight has different reach, speed, and power, giving the three-player characters distinct play styles. The arcade original was well regarded for its polished combat and attractive sword-and-sorcery presentation, while the SNES conversion was recognized as a capable home version with some compromises in scale and performance.
