How it plays

How does Langrisser III play?

Langrisser III uses a top-down, grid-based battlefield. The player deploys commanders and their attached troops, moves units across terrain, and defeats enemy commanders or completes scenario objectives. Commanders can attack, defend, cast spells, and support nearby forces.

Each scenario is divided into turns, with unit movement and combat forming the core loop. Troops can be hired and selected to counter different enemy types, while commanders gain experience and can follow class-change routes. Between battles, dialogue and decisions develop relationships and can affect the story’s direction.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Langrisser III?

Match troop types to the enemies they counter instead of relying only on commander statistics. Keep commanders close enough to benefit from support and avoid sending an unsupported unit deep into enemy territory.

Plan class changes around the role you need later. Save before major story decisions, and use terrain and chokepoints to reduce the number of enemies that can attack a unit in one turn.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Recruit and review troops before each scenario; an unfilled commander is often much weaker than the same commander with suitable support.

  2. 2

Use terrain and formation spacing to prevent several enemy groups from surrounding one commander.

  3. 3

Keep a save before major dialogue choices because story outcomes can branch.
