Use conservative runs and short passes early to learn how the defense reacts. Mix formations and avoid repeatedly calling the same successful play, since predictable play-calling makes coverage and blitzes easier to anticipate.

Protect the football: throw the ball away when a receiver is covered, and favor sideline routes or checkdowns when under pressure. On defense, watch the offensive formation before the snap and prioritize stopping the run on short-yardage downs.
