Games are structured around four quarters, downs, field position, time management, and scoring. Season-oriented play adds a longer progression through a schedule, while exhibition play provides a single matchup. Success depends on reading defensive coverage, selecting suitable formations, and managing substitutions and play rhythm.

Use short passes and running plays to maintain manageable down-and-distance situations. Mix formations rather than repeatedly calling the same play, and watch the defense before committing to a deep throw.

On defense, switch to the defender nearest the ball and protect the middle of the field first. Preserve timeouts late in a half and favor safe field position when a scoring attempt is unlikely.
