How it plays

How does Mega Man X play?

Mega Man X is a side-scrolling platformer viewed from the side. The main campaign begins with eight selectable Maverick stages, each containing hazards, enemies, collectibles, and a boss. Boss victories provide special weapons that can make later encounters easier.

X can run, jump, shoot, charge his buster, cling to walls, and dash. Dr. Light's capsules grant armor parts and upgrades, while optional Heart Tanks and Sub Tanks improve survivability. After the eight Mavericks are defeated, the game continues through Sigma's fortress stages.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Mega Man X?

Study each boss's movement and use the weapon that exploits its weakness. The weakness cycle is useful, but charged shots and dash-jumps remain important when ammunition is limited.

Explore stages after gaining new abilities. Look for unusual walls, pits, and passages containing Heart Tanks, Sub Tanks, and Dr. Light capsules. Collecting upgrades early makes Sigma's fortress substantially more manageable.
