How it plays
Mega Man X2 is played from a side-view perspective. X moves through eight selectable Maverick stages, defeating enemies, avoiding hazards, collecting items, and reaching a stage boss. Each defeated boss grants a special weapon with advantages against another boss.
X can run, jump, shoot, charge shots, and dash. Wall jumping, armor upgrades, heart tanks, Sub Tanks, and hidden capsules expand his abilities and survivability. The X-Hunters may appear in selected stages; finding and defeating them affects the story and Zero-related ending. After the main stages, the game continues through a sequence of fortress levels.
Plan your run
Study boss weaknesses rather than relying only on the X-Buster. The stage order can reduce difficulty by giving X useful weapons early.
Search walls, ceilings, and alternate routes for armor capsules, heart tanks, Sub Tanks, and the X-Hunters. Charge shots, dashes, and wall jumps are essential for both damage avoidance and movement.
If you want the Zero-related story outcome, locate and defeat all three X-Hunters and recover all three Zero Parts before completing the relevant fortress sequence.

Mega Man X2 is a 1994 action-platformer developed and published by Capcom for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It follows X after the events of the first game as he confronts the X-Hunters, a group seeking to revive and control Zero. The game combines precise side-scrolling platforming with run-and-gun combat, upgrade hunting, and boss battles against eight Mavericks. Players can explore stages in different orders, using newly acquired weapons to exploit boss weaknesses and uncover optional enhancements. Critics and players generally praised its responsive controls, polished 16-bit presentation, soundtrack, and expanded mechanics, although it was often viewed as a refinement rather than a radical departure from Mega Man X.
