How it plays
The game uses a side-view perspective. The player moves through horizontally scrolling missions, defeats soldiers and vehicles, avoids traps, rescues prisoners of war, and reaches the end of each stage.
Players can fire standard weapons, collect stronger firearms, jump, crouch, and operate vehicles when available. Missions contain branching objectives and routes, while completing stages advances the campaign and unlocks later areas.
Plan your run
Conserve special ammunition until groups of enemies or armored targets appear. Keep moving when facing soldiers and vehicles, and use crouching or platform edges to reduce exposure to gunfire.
Search the stages carefully for prisoners of war and route changes. Learn enemy placement through repetition, because memorizing ambushes is often more valuable than rushing forward.
Meet the cast
A regular soldier of the Peregrine Falcon Strike Force and one of the playable protagonists.
A soldier of the Peregrine Falcon Strike Force and the second playable protagonist.
Before you begin
Use the standard gun against isolated enemies and save powerful weapons for vehicles or crowded sections.
Watch the terrain as carefully as the enemies; pits and traps can end a life quickly.
Replay stages to learn alternate routes and improve prisoner rescues.
Metal Slug: 2nd Mission is a side-scrolling run-and-gun action game developed and published by SNK for the Neo Geo Pocket Color. It adapts the series’ shooting and platforming formula to a compact handheld format, with players fighting through enemy-held battlefields while rescuing prisoners and using heavy weapons. The game offers separate routes and mission objectives that add some variation to repeated playthroughs. Its presentation is simplified compared with the arcade games, but it retains the series’ comic animation, explosive combat, and vehicle-based action. Contemporary and retrospective reception has generally valued it as one of the stronger action games on the Neo Geo Pocket Color, especially for its responsive controls and effective handheld adaptation.
