Johnny Cage
A Hollywood martial artist who enters the tournament to prove his fighting ability.
How it plays
The player selects a fighter and battles through a ladder of one-on-one matches. Each round combines normal punches and kicks, jumps, crouches, blocking, and character-specific special moves.
Winning two rounds advances the player toward mirror matches, endurance battles, the sub-boss Goro, and final opponent Shang Tsung. A second player can compete in versus matches. Victories lead to an ending tailored to the selected fighter.
Plan your run
Learn the spacing and timing of one main attack before relying on special moves. Blocking is essential against aggressive opponents, but do not hold it constantly because throws and close-range pressure can punish passive play.
Save meterless special moves for clear openings, and practice each fighter’s finishing input outside the heat of a match. Against Goro, keep moving, avoid standing directly in front of him, and punish his recovery after missed attacks.

Mortal Kombat is a one-on-one fighting game developed by Probe Software for the Sega CD and published by Acclaim Entertainment. It adapts Midway’s arcade original, placing Earthrealm champions and supernatural warriors in a tournament controlled by the sorcerer Shang Tsung. Matches use a six-button-style layout, distinctive special moves, blocking, and finishing fatalities. The Sega CD version is notable for its CD-quality presentation, including a full-motion-video introduction and additional audiovisual material, while retaining the original game’s roster and structure. Reception generally recognized its faithful arcade gameplay and improved presentation, although technical limitations and loading times prevented it from matching the arcade experience completely.
