How it plays

How does Namco Museum 64 play?

The compilation uses the original games' viewpoints and objectives. Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man are top-down maze games; Galaga and Galaxian are fixed-screen shooters; Dig Dug is a side-view digging action game; and the Pole Position titles are behind-the-car racing games.

Players select a title from the museum menu, then pursue high scores through increasingly difficult stages, enemy formations, mazes, or races. Most games are designed for one player, although selected titles support alternating or simultaneous play. Progress is based on surviving, clearing stages, and improving score rather than on a persistent campaign.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Namco Museum 64?

Learn one game at a time instead of treating the collection as a single campaign. Begin with short scoring goals and focus on survival until enemy patterns become familiar.

  • In Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man, plan escape routes before collecting the last pellets and use Power Pellets deliberately.
  • In Galaga and Galaxian, make controlled shots and avoid staying directly beneath descending enemies.
  • In Dig Dug, create safe tunnels and use rocks or the pump to manage groups.
  • In Pole Position, brake early for corners and prioritize clean laps over risky overtakes.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Use the collection to compare the different scoring systems and difficulty curves.

  2. 2

For racing games, consistent cornering is more valuable than maximum speed.

  3. 3

Arcade games restart quickly, so repeated practice is the intended progression.
